Prevention Check

Prevention & Health-Check
Tools

Four tools for self-checking lifestyle-disease and musculoskeletal risks, based on your health-check results and everyday movement. This is guidance we can offer precisely because our conditioning is led by a physical therapist. What you enter is saved on this device and shown automatically the next time you visit.

TOOL 01

Metabolic Risk Quick Screening

A quick screening for possible visceral fat accumulation, based on waist circumference and BMI.

Waist75 cm
Height165 cm
Weight60 kg

Within standard range

Both your waist circumference and BMI (22.0) are within the standard range. To maintain this, continuing aerobic exercise and strength training two to three times a week is effective.

※ This tool is a first-step screening based on waist circumference and BMI, using the criteria of Japan's Specific Health Checkups (waist circumference of 85 cm for men / 90 cm for women). A definitive assessment requires blood pressure, blood glucose, and lipid values from a health checkup, and this tool is not a substitute for a medical diagnosis. Even if your result is "Flagged" or "Caution", please start by reviewing it together with your health checkup results.

TOOL 02

Locomotive Syndrome Check (Stand-Up Test)

Check an estimate of your mobility, centered on leg strength, through the motion of standing up from a seat.

⚠ Please take great care to avoid falling. Do not push yourself if you feel any uncertainty. Do not perform this test if you have knee or back pain. We recommend doing it where you can immediately grab onto something, or with a family member watching over you.

How to do the test

  1. Sit shallowly on the seat and cross your arms
  2. Stand up without using momentum, and hold the position for 3 seconds
  3. For the one-leg version, lift the leg opposite the side being tested slightly off the floor

Select the most difficult movement you could complete

Standard met

You can stand up from a 40 cm seat on one leg, so your mobility is currently within the standard range. To maintain this, continuing lower-body strength and balance training such as single-leg standing and squats is effective.

※ This self-check is a simplified version of the stand-up test, one of the "Locomo Tests" proposed by the Japanese Orthopaedic Association. The official assessment also includes the "Two-Step Test" and the "Locomo 25" questionnaire, and a more accurate evaluation combines all three. At our gym, a physical therapist can assess your locomotive syndrome stage using the official procedure — if your result concerns you, please talk to us at your Initial Conditioning Assessment.

TOOL 03

METs Calorie Burn Calculator

Estimates the calories you burn, based on your weight, duration, and type of activity.

Weight55 kg
Duration30 min
101kcal burned≈ 0.4 bowls of rice

※ METs values are standard figures based on the METs table of physical activities (National Institute of Health and Nutrition, Japan) and are approximate. Actual energy expenditure varies with body composition and exercise intensity.

TOOL 04

Sleep Cycle Calculator

Calculates candidate bedtimes and wake-up times based on the roughly 90-minute sleep cycle.

Wake-up time (hour)6 h
Wake-up time (minute)30 min

9.0 h of sleep

21:15

Be asleep by this time

7.5 h of sleep

22:45

Be asleep by this time

6.0 h of sleep

00:15

Be asleep by this time

4.5 h of sleep

01:45

Be asleep by this time

※ 90 minutes is the average length of a sleep cycle, and it varies between individuals. Bathing about 90 minutes before bedtime coincides with the timing when your core body temperature drops, which is said to help you fall asleep.

Home Fall-Prevention Check

Why not review the home environment, too?

Most falls among older adults happen at home. Our Home Fall-Prevention Checklist walks you room by room — from the entrance to the stairs — to find places worth reviewing, and works well as a check to do together with family.

Self-checks are only the starting point

For a comprehensive assessment that considers your health-check numbers together with knee or lower-back pain, a physical therapist will guide you directly at your Initial Conditioning Assessment.
